Dental fillings are used to repair cavities, cracks and holes in your teeth. These are simple treatments which can be performed within the surgery by our general dentist with or without local anaesthetic. You can now have your old metal fillings replaced with natural looking white fillings which are virtually undetectable when you laugh and smile.
Why choose Faversham Smiles for White Fillings?
Traditionally, amalgam fillings were used to protect teeth from further decay. These type of dental fillings were made up of a mix of metal materials which created a strong and long lasting mould. They were extremely effective but very noticeable and are unsightly to look at.
White fillings use a composite material formed of resin and glass. They are known to be just as strong as metal fillings but benefit from being tooth-coloured and therefore significantly more aesthetically pleasing. The other good news is that they do not contain mercury so they are much safer. By using enamel and dentin bonding techniques, white fillings can restore teeth that have become damaged as a result of tooth decay or trauma.
Fillings are available in all types of materials and we will advise you as to the one best suited to you:
Amalgam – This is a silver-coloured alloy made from a mixture of metals including silver, tin, mercury, and copper.
Composite – A tooth-coloured material made from a glass and resin mixture. It is a more cosmetic filling which will blend and look more natural in your mouth.
Glass Ionomer – Also a tooth-coloured material, this is made from powdered glass and bonds chemically with the natural tooth. This is not as aesthetic as composite.
