At Faversham Smiles, we have the skills and expertise to restore damaged teeth using a number of different treatment methods. If you have one or more decayed, chipped or worn down teeth, our dental professionals can advise the most appropriate treatment solutions that may include Cosmetic Bonding, Veneers, Inlays & Onlays and Dental Crowns.
Why choose Faversham Smiles to restore your teeth?
Fillings are simplest treatments to repairs holes or areas of decay in the teeth. These can be performed within the surgery by our general dentist with or without local anaesthetic, and you can find more information about the different types of filling here.
Cosmetic Bonding (sometimes known as a composite veneer) is the in-surgery alternative to Veneers; this minimally invasive treatment can revitalise your smile by hiding those pesky cracks and chips. Find out more about this treatment here.
These are long-lasting, fixed solutions to heavily filled and broken-down teeth providing a strong and reliable restoration. Lab-based options are made from metal, porcelain, or ceramic and are cemented to your own natural tooth when fillings are not strong enough for protection.
Porcelain Veneers are used for the anterior teeth (those in your smile line). They are extraordinarily strong and designed to protect the tooth underneath. This covering is placed only on the outside of the tooth and is usually used for cosmetic purposes to reshape the teeth. If you have cracked, misshapen, or wonky teeth at the front of your mouth, Veneers could be an option for you.
Metal Crowns rarely chip or break, last the longest in terms of wear, and only require a small amount of tooth to be removed. They are also the best with regard to withstanding biting and chewing forces. The metallic colour is the main drawback. Metal crowns are a good choice for out-of-sight molars, but if aesthetics and a natural look is essential then a ceramic or porcelain crown may be the preferred solution for you.
Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal Crowns can be matched to the colour of the teeth beside them, giving them a more natural tooth colour; however, sometimes the metal under the crown’s porcelain cap shows through as a dark line. Other drawbacks are that the crown’s porcelain portion can chip or break off and there is more wearing down of the teeth opposite them in the mouth. (The top and bottom teeth that comes into contact when the mouth is closed.) These crowns can be a good choice for front or back teeth.
Ceramic or Porcelain Crowns provide the best natural colour match than any other crown type and avoid the possibility of metallic undertones. All-ceramic crowns are a good choice for front teeth.
Inlays and Onlays are an alternative form of restoration. The best description is that they are a partial crown that sits either into part of the tooth or along the top of part of the tooth, thus giving them their namesake. These treatments are available in the same materials as crowns and are ideal for teeth that need more than a filling but are not damaged enough for a crown.
Dental Bridges are one of many solutions for missing teeth and create a bridge between the spaces created by the loss of teeth. Gaps due to tooth loss can affect your appearance and cause the teeth opposing and adjacent to move and drift causing gum disease, problems with biting and chewing, difficulty cleaning your teeth (which can lead to decay), and issues with temporomandibular joint problems (TMJ disorders). Generally, bridges are made from similar materials to crowns and can help improve function when eating due to spreading the pressures from biting and chewing. Furthermore, they can aid with speech and help restore your smile and face shape.
Whether you need cosmetic bonding, a new crown, inlay or onlay, veneer, or bridge, Faversham Smiles can achieve stunning results. With modern tooth coloured materials, we can now restore a tooth to blend in with the natural shade of your smile.
